Chief Marketing Officer, DynamicAction
Sarah Engel is Chief Marketing Officer of retail analytics company DynamicAction, recognized by the National Retail Federation as the 2017 Digital Commerce Startup of the Year. Sarah is a key member of the executive team for the venture-backed software company, with responsibility for marketing strategy, brand and content marketing, digital, social, lead generation and communications, as well as the company’s HR and culture.
She is creator and chief analyst for the DynamicAction Retail Index, a multi-year study of more than $4 billion in consumer transactions offering consumer insights and retail guidance on metrics ranging from profit protection and inventory optimization to customer experience and promotional expectations. Sarah works directly with journalists, analysts, VC firms and commerce executives to provide insights on evolving consumer behavior, the shifting economics of omnichannel retail, technology implications and the specific ways in which customer-centric retail brands are thriving in the Amazon Era. Her commentary has been featured in top-tier publications including WWD, The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, CNBC, the Associated Press and countless other news and analyst organizations.
Prior to joining DynamicAction, Sarah helped some of the world’s most notable consumer and B2B brands with strategic marketing and business leadership, M&A guidance, public relations and customer acquisition strategies. Notable brands included Travelocity, iProspect (Dentsu Aegis), Chevrolet, ClearSaleing (eBay), Match.com, men’s lifestyle brand 2(X)IST and digital agency PMG among others. She founded Elegant Disruption, a strategic consulting firm, which provided guidance for multiple executive teams, navigated companies through successful funding rounds and acquisitions and led multiple global brand reinventions.
Prior to Elegant Disruption, Sarah was director of marketing for new products at Belo Corp. and director of events for Match.com. She began her career as a journalist and public relations professional and has since worked with innovative brands, including Neiman Marcus, Estee Lauder, Stuart Weitzman, Wyndham Hotels and CenturyLink. She was recently named a 2017 “Champion of PR” by PRWeek, a recognition of women innovating the communications industry and guiding other women to leadership success, and named as one of the Top 20 Women Leaders in Business of 2017 by the “bible of fashion” Women’s Wear Daily.
Sarah is passionate about growing and mentoring the next generation of world-changers, both within DynamicAction and in the community. She serves on the Dallas board of directors for Step Up Women’s Network, a nonprofit focused on mentorship and after-school programs that propel young women from under-resourced high schools to fulfill their potential of becoming confident, college-bound women and ready to join the next generation of professional women. She also leads DynamicAction’s community involvement initiatives, including spearheading its “Retail Responds: Coins of Caring” campaign which provides financial donations to nonprofits serving children, advancing technology education and providing humanitarian aid.
