The Personal Journey of Paula Bennett

We all have to define what success means to us, both personally and professionally.  With nearly 50 years of retail experience, Paula Bennett, former president and CEO of J.Jill, is delighted to share what has shaped her career and what principles have helped to define her success.

As one of seven female graduates of the College of Business at The Ohio State University, Paula began her career in the executive training program at Bloomingdale’s followed by leadership stints with Tiffany & Co. and Calvin Klein. She went on to become the COO at Eileen Fisher, followed by CEO at Orchard Brands Corporation, and then president and CEO of J.Jill. Each step of her career has strengthened her knowledge of the industry and helped her reach beyond those strengths to learn and succeed in new areas from brick and mortar retail to online and direct.  Hear how Paula believes confident, caring, and compassionate women can be successful at whatever they desire. You won’t want to miss this presentation!

Business and Life Lessons From Sharon Price John

When Sharon Price John assumed the role of president and chief executive officer at Build-A-Bear Workshop in 2013, the company had experienced multiple years of waning profitability. Five years and four holiday seasons later, Ms. John has led Build-A-Bear through a financial turnaround, while refreshing the 20-year-old brand. Along the way, she has diversified Build-A-Bear’s real estate portfolio; launched a new e-commerce platform; and expanded the company’s intellectual properties, entertainment ventures and international outbound licensing partnerships.

How is she helping Build-A-Bear become a multi-generational brand and remain relevant in an evolving industry? In today’s keynote, you’ll learn the answer to this question and more as Ms. John shares insights from her journey with the company, touching on her decades of branding and retail-industry experience. She will also discuss her career journey, management philosophy, why it’s important to follow your gut, and how both the willingness and ability to change are paramount to long-term success.

How to Stay on Course and Be Prepared for the Future at the Same Time

It’s becoming increasingly apparent that brands and retailers must be agile and ready to innovate around technology. Yet, this is becoming an increasingly tall order, especially with the proliferation of new technologies today. Some important questions to consider:

    • How would you rate your innovation aptitude?
    • How do you decide where and what to invest in?
    • What skill sets do you need to bring these new technology projects forward and execute?
    • How do you stay ahead of the curve and constantly keep up with the latest retail technologies while still focusing on the current demands of the day?
    • Finally, what are some of the challenges you must overcome so that you and your team can absorb these new technologies most efficiently and effectively?

This highly-qualified panel will address all of these issues. With real life examples, our esteemed panelists will discuss how they decide what technologies to invest in; how they help their teams implement these new technology projects and stay focused on innovation while keeping them on task; their innovation and retail tech successes; and what’s on deck for the future.

Let’s keep the connections going! After the bubbly, grab a  group of fellow attendees and explore the Ritz-Carlton property and take advantage of the endless hotel offerings. Whether you are looking for rest and relaxation, or a little bit of adventure they have it all. Start at one of two oceanfront pools, or head straight to the beach for a dip in the Atlantic. While you’re there, feel free to paddle board, sail or kayak. Book a treatment online at the massive 25,000-square-foot luxury salon and spa and drift even further away into relaxation. Looking to serve up a sweat? The hotel houses the largest tennis center of any Ritz-Carlton (11 courts!), and offers multiple fitness classes per day at the world-class Fitness Center.  The property is also just five minutes away from the beautiful par-72 Crandon Park Golf Course.
